Questa immagine è stata scattata nel quartiere Lao Men Dong di Nanjing.
In questo piccolo agglomerato di case ricostruite in modo da apparire antiche si trovano laboratori in cui è possibile noleggiare abiti che ricordano quelli di epoca imperiale e cimentarsi in attività ormai scomparse dal quotidiano, come la calligrafia, l’uso di strumenti antichi, o anche il semplice aggirarsi per le vie tra altre persone in costume.
Il passato imperiale in Cina dopo anni di oblio durante il periodo maoista sta tornando lentamente in auge.
Il recente recupero di questa epoca della storia cinese ha anche lo scopo di dare forza alla narrazione del paese come potenza mondiale passata e futura.

This picture has been taken in the Lao Men Dong area in Nanjing.
In this small group of houses, refurbished as ancient, there are small shops in which people can rent old costumes from the imperial age and try activities as calligraphy, playing old istruments, or simply walking around with other people wearing costumes.
The Chinese imperial past, after years of forgetfulness during the Maois age, is now back in vogue.
The recent reconsideration of this period of the Chinese history has also the purpose of giving more strength to the narration of the country as past and future global power

BROCADE
La foto del mese di Febbraio è stata scattata a Nanchino, nel centro di tutela e promozione del broccato. La manifattura del broccato in Cina si è sviluppata a partire dal periodo degli Stati Combattenti ed è ora totalmente meccanizzata. Gli antichi telai, come quello in foto, sopravvivono solo in queste ristrette oasi di memoria.

This picture has been taken in the Brocade Centre in Nanjing. The manufacture of brocade began in china during the Warring States period and is now totally mechanised. The traditional looms, as the one in the picture, survive only in these little oasis of memory.

La foto del mese di Marzo è stata scattata sulle rive del fiume Li a Xing Ping, villaggio vicino a Guilin nella regione di Guangxi. Un anziano pescatore indica la direzione delle celebri montagne rappresentate sulle banconote da 20 Yuan. ***

This picture has been taken on the banks of Li river at Xing Ping, near to Guilin Village in the Guangxi region. An old fisherman shows the direction of the famous mountains represented on the 20 Yuan notes.

Una nuova alba
Un pescatore, a bordo della sua piccola barca di bambù, percorre all’alba le acque del fiume Li nei pressi del villaggio di Yangshuo, increspandone appena la superficie. Il fiume, di giorno congestionato dal passaggio di innumerevoli barche, si presenta alle prime luci del giorno come uno specchio perfetto per le iconiche montagne della regione di Guilin.

A fisherman, on his small bamboo boat, crosses at dawn the water of the river Li close to the Yangshuo village, lightly ripping the water surface. The river during the day is congested by the passage of countless boats but at the first light of day is a perfect mirror for the iconic mountain of the Guilin region.

Piazza Tienanmen, un soldato di guardia di fronte all’ingresso della Città Proibita. Dalla balconata sotto la quale ora giganteggia un suo ritratto, Mao Zedong, il primo ottobre 1949, proclamò ufficialmente la fondazione della Repubblica Popolare Cinese. La piazza è anche famosa per gli scontri avvenuti nel giugno del 1989.

Tienanmen Square, a soldier on guard duty in front of the entrance to the Forbidden City. From the balcony above his portrait, Mao Zedong, on October 1st 1949, officially proclaimed the foundation of the People’s Republic of China. Mercato dei grilli di Shanghai
Scommettitori assistono ad un combattimento tra grilli al mercato Fujou di Shanghai. In questo mercato vengono venduti grilli da compagnia, scelti in base al loro canto e grilli da combattimento impiegati poi negli incontri. La tradizione del combattimento tra grilli ha più di mille anni, bandita durante la Rivoluzione Culturale, ha ritrovato negli ultimi anni nuova vita, pur rimanendo proibita dalle autorità.

Cricket market Shanghai
Gamblers watch a cricket fight at the Fujou market in Shanghai. In this market are sold pet crickets, chosen on the basis of their singing and fighting crickets then used in the combats. The tradition of fighting crickets has over a thousand years, banned during the Cultural Revolution, has found new life in recent years, while remaining prohibited by the authorities.

Nel villaggio di Xingping un anziano guarda la televisione concedendosi i pochi lussi di cui può’ disporre, il conforto della poca brezza che riesce ad entrare dalla porta aperta verso la strada, quello dell’ennesima sigaretta e la protezione del suo idolo e Grande Timoniere Mao.

Mercato del pesce di Aberdeen, Hong Kong.
Quello di Aberdeen è il mercato del pesce principale dell’isola di Hong Kong, già da alcune ore prima dell’alba un via vai intenso di barche, persone e veicoli scandisce il tempo di questa città. Nella foto un lavoratore intento a trasferire crostacei dalle vasche in cui hanno sostato qualche ora alle casse destinate a piccole rivendite e ristoranti.

The Aberdeen wholesale fish market is the main fish market on the island of Hong Kong, from before dawn to all the morning an intense bustle of boats, people and vehicles marks the time of this city. In the photo a worker intent on transferring crustaceans from the tanks, in which they stopped for a few hours, to the boxes for small retailers and restaurants.

Una vecchia giunca in navigazione al cospetto dei grattacieli della città con le insegne illuminate a ricordare il settantesimo anniversario della Rivoluzione Culturale. Questo anniversario ha rappresentato uno dei momenti più caldi delle proteste contro il governo.

Torre di porcellana Nanchino
Opera leggendaria costruita all’epoca della dinastia Ming e totalmente distrutta durante la rivolta dei Taiping. Recentemente è stata integralmente ricostruita rispettando in minima parte le caratteristiche dell’edificio originale, creando un polo attrattivo in parte museo in parte “parco delle meraviglie” con sale degli specchi, ambientazioni futuristiche mescolate a richiami religiosi, che vengono così privati del loro reale significato, capace di attrarre turisti da tutta la Cina.

Nanjing Porcelain Tower
Legendary building of the Ming dynasty, totally destroyed during the Taiping revolt. It has recently been completely rebuilt with minimal respect for the characteristics of the original building, creating an attractive pole that is partly a museum and partly a “Wonderland” that attract tourists from all over China ,with halls of mirrors and futuristic settings mixed with religious references which are thus deprived of their real meaning.
