BIANCO

The project explores places, crafts, arts, realities, all united by the immateriality of the colour white. Sometimes explicitly present, as in the rarefied reflections of the Venetian lagoon or in the marble quarries of Carrara, other times just a reminder, as in the artisan paper mills of Fabriano or in the places of the White War in the Dolomites. Sometimes a material from which to create, like the plaster of the art replicas in the plaster cast workshops, other times the end of a long process, like the poisonous white lead, produced from the metal extracted in the mines and used in the past for paintings and frescoes.

Bianco is an unusual journey to Italy, which connects distant places and contexts, belonging to different realities, all however linked by the presence of this colour.

Il progetto esplora luoghi, mestieri, arti, realtà, tutti accomunati dall’immaterialità del colore bianco. A volte esplicitamente presente, come nei rarefatti riflessi della laguna veneta o nelle cave di marmo di Carrara, altre volte solo un richiamo, come nelle cartiere artigianali di Fabriano o nei luoghi della Guerra Bianca sulle Dolomiti. A volte un materiale dal quale creare, come il gesso delle repliche d’arte delle gipsoteche, altre il fine di un lungo processo, come il velenoso bianco di piombo, prodotto dal metallo estratto nelle miniere e usato in passato per pitture e affreschi. Un inusuale viaggio in Italia, che ne connette luoghi e contesti lontani, appartenenti a realtà distanti fra loro, tutti però in qualche modo legati dalla presenza di questo intangibile colore.
